چکیده

Hydrolysis of glucuronides is a prerequisite for the quantitative determination or the isolation of a number of physiologically important compounds which are conjugated with glucuronic acid in the animal body. The use of acid for this hydrolysis has frequently brought about chemical alteration of the product under study (14). The need for a hydrolytic agent which is specific and sufficiently mild to preclude the possibility of chemical alteration has led to the investigation of biological catalysts (enzymes). Obviously, an enzyme possessing the capacity to hydrolyze glucuronides at a low temperature and approximate neutrality should fulfil these requirements. Preparations containing such activity have been obtained from both mammalian and bacterial sources. Fishman et al. (5-7) and others (8, 9) have published reports on the preparation and purification of the enzyme from animal sources, and Buehler et al. (10) have presented details of the preparation and use of p-glucuronidase from Escherichia coli. The experimental work which is reported in this paper defines more clearly the conditions for the production of the latter and describes some of the characteristics of the partially purified product.

The Etiology of Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia

Etiology of Physiologic Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia. Every newborn infant develop·s hyperbilirubinemia during the first week of life which is called "physiologic". There are several factors responsible for the development of physiologic hyperbilirubinemia, as follows:  1. Increased bilirubin production, due to a - Increased blood volume. b - Decreased R.B.C. survival time.  c - Increased in...

INHIBITORY EFFECT OF STEVIA AND ROSA EXTRACTS AGAINST BACTERIAL QUORUM SENSING

Background & Aims: Quorum Sensing is a mechanism by which orchestrate the expression of many genes in bacteria. Therefore, any interference with the system will inhibit bacterial infections. The principal purpose of the research was to evaluate the potential of anti-quorum sensing of Rosa damascena and Stevia rebaudiana against Staphylococcus aureus. Materials & Methods: Ten isolates of Staphy...

Quantitative analysis of bacterial gene expression by using the gusA reporter gene system.

An Azospirillum brasilense Sp7 strain containing a plasmid-borne translational cytN-gusA fusion was grown in a continuous culture to quantitatively evaluate the influence of extracellular signals (such as O(2)) on expression of the cytNOQP operon. The dissolved oxygen concentration was shifted at regular time intervals before the steady state was reached. The measured beta-glucuronidase activit...
